The 2015 ECOSOC Youth Forum was held within the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (UN ECOSOC) in United Nations Headquarters in New York on 2-3 February 2015.

The Republic of Kazakhstan at this event was represented by a delegate from the Kazakhstan National Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations (KazFUCA), which unites more than 3,000 active young people. In her speech the Secretary General of the KazFUCA - Ms. Sabina Chukayeva highlighted the strong points of Kazakhstani youth policy and, as a result – annual Youth Leaders Forum of UNESCO Clubs held in the framework of the United Nations main priorities and goals of sustainable development.

The Forum, initiated in 2012, became a dialogue platform between young people and UN Member States for a number of important issues within the spectrum of their interests.

2015 - gives us an opportunity to change the course of our history. We are the first generation that is able to put an end to poverty, and we are – the last, who really can deal with the climate change to prevent worst its’ impacts.

Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General

The main participants to the Forum traditionally are the young delegates, representatives of national youth councils, regional youth organizations, governments of Member States, as well as the staff representatives of the major UN agencies and programmes, those who actively involved in youth policy making process.

The young people of more than 180 countries were urged to join the decision-making process by the heads of states in regard of the transition from the Millennium Development Goals to the Goals of Sustainable Development, on the threshold of the UN "post-2015" agenda adoption at the forthcoming 70th UN General Assembly jubilee session in September this year.

Addressing the Forum, the UN Secretary General Mr Ban Ki-moon urged the youth to join efforts towards building a better world for all. "We are here at an important time for all of us. 2015 - is not just the other year. This year gives us an opportunity to change the course of our history. We are the first generation that is able to put an end to poverty, and we are – the last, who really can deal with the climate change to prevent worst its’ impacts, "- said the UN Secretary-General.

Along with the discussion of the United Nations sustainable development agenda, other issues of the Forum were: importance of gender equality, special needs of young people in Africa and the 20th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth. Recommendations of participants to the Forum will be presented by July 2015 in the framework of ECOSOC High Level Meeting and also will be added to the Secretary-General’s report to the UN General Assembly jubilee session and to the World Youth Report.
