On June 30, an award ceremony took place for winners of the Kyrgyzstan National Art Competition for children and youth "Together for Peace Kyrgyzstan." The ceremony took place at the congress halls of the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO in Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek. The competition was organized by the National Commission in partnership with the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty.
The art competition was launched in November 2011 to mark the International Day for Tolerance in Kyrgyzstan. The initiative supports the creative development of children and youth while promoting tolerance and reconciliation both in Kyrgyzstan and globally. The contest took place in three stages from November 2011 - April 2012.More than 1,200 works were submitted to UNESCO from all regions of the country. Entries were evaluated by an international jury composed of representatives of art, UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty, the National Commission for UNESCO in the Kyrgyz Republic, national and international non-governmental organizations and invited experts.
Ten year-old Tancholpon Kishenbaeva from Talas explained the motivation behind her award-winning work, which shows people from different ethnic backgrounds holding balloons on which the words "Together for a Peaceful Kyrgyzstan!” are written in Kyrgyz. “I want there to be happiness in every family, and I want all people who live in Kyrgyzstan to live together as friends”.
The winners include:
- Birimkulova Alina (11th grade student of school ¹6, Kara-Balta) - 1st place;
- Tolubai uulu Nurkalyi (9th grade student of special Children's Art School ¹18 named after G. Aitiev, Osh) and Arzybaev Beksultan (9th grade student of Education Gymnasium ¹68, Bishkek) - 2nd place;
- Turdubaeva Ayturgan (Osh), Oskonbaev Samat (Bishkek), Kubanychbek uulu Kairat (Issyk-Kul region) and Kishenbaeva Tancholpon (Talas) - 3rd place.
