The First YouthMobile Central Asia School

UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office and Kloop Media Public Foundation organized two week training sessions on mobile apps development for young women and men as part of YouthMobile program.

A YouthMobile Summer School on mobile applications development started at 30 November in Bishkek city, Kyrgyzstan

Selected from more than 60 applicants, 20 young students received training on basics programming skills, on using self-taught development courses online and on conceiving and creating mobile applications targeted toward real users.

The course, was took place from 30 November to 11 December 2015. The training sessions were based on openly accessible youth-oriented materials developed by the Kloop Media Foundation. The participants were selected through an open call for applications.

Mobile applications developed during the training:
  • "Hear me" (available in Play Market). This app will help deaf and hard of hearing to communicate with people. Avtor of the application - 22-year-old certified signlanguage interpreter, Aygerim Asanova.
  • The application with the working title "A simple method at home." The app is aimed at teaching children to read early. The author - Suyun Sydykova.
  • This YouthMobile School workshop contributes to the employment of youth, as programming skills would enhance their ability to make well-based choice and enable them to gain access to the labour markets.

    Since 2014, the UNESCO YouthMobile initiative has targeted young girls and boys to acquire basic technical skills and the necessary competencies for the development, promotion and marketing of mobile applications that address local sustainability issues.

    The initiatives overall objective is to allow young people to develop the skills of the 21st century to fully participate in addressing the challenges of sustainable development in their communities. The initiative aims at, through projects in more than 18 countries, introducing young people to entrepreneurship and creating viable employment opportunities in the mobile phone industry and the ICT Sector.
